He lived during the latter half of the first millennium BC.

He was the founder of Buddhism and is revered by Buddhists as an awakened being whose teachings represent and explain a path to freedom from ignorance, craving, rebirth, and suffering.

This painting was painted during the first lockdown, when one morning I walked into my studio feeling nervous about the corona virus.

After listening to the news and feeling anxious about the world, I saw his face on a background I had already prepared for another painting.

It was just his face looking up into the sky as though hoping and praying for better days.

The blue resonates with the strong healing colour and I felt comforted when painting this portrait.

Looking through people with a hard stare. A question to be asked. Are you looking at me? Don't judge, stay true.

I See you standing there, being observed, watching others go about their world finding your own path.
