———- Nina Rising ———-
Inspired from the jazz and blues artists.
I saw Nina Simone in concert in London in the late 80s. A woman who walked on stage using a cane to steady herself, the silence of the auditorium. She didn't talk or say anything much, she didnt look very happy or sad either, very unimpressed with her audience. She carried a strong presence.
She sat at the piano and tinkered with a few keys and teased the crowd. Within minuets of playing, the theatre exploded into life. Her deep dark soulful voice, her fingers on the piano, and her energy lifted the entire room. I have never felt so inspired by music before. ‘Nina Rising’ is my definition of the phenoix rising from the fire.
———- Pushing Pink ———-
She is a stylish woman with a bold sense of fashion. Like a queen with flowing robes, she is a womans woman, a loyal friend who is always Stylish, like she walked off the pages of a magazine with all the confidence in the world.
———- Gucci Girl ———-
Gucci Girl is a modern day woman who loves culture and travel. Gucci slang means Gucci is: "fancy, very fashionable" "good, fine" "great, cool" Gucci girl looks after herself, independant in her thinking and views, and loves adventures. She enjoys eating street food with her friends whilst also drinking in the finest cocktail bars. She is a real contradiction but true to herself. Never be afraid to be who you are.
———- See you standing there ———-
I see you standing there, being observed, watching others go about their world finding your own path.

———- Knowing me ———-
She has familiarity with herself, she knows who someone is. With such familiarity, she can feel confident with close friendships, even having only met someone once. She is strong and wise.
"Knowledge is a familiarity or awareness, of someone or something contributing to ones understanding of the world we live in today".

A strong woman knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows it is in the journey where she will become strong.”

———- Amazing Me ———-
This painting depicts the struggles most women go through at some point in their lives.
The celebration of female empowerment, of choosing to love ourselves first.
The strength to stand forward and project our own sense of self worth and confidence. To emerge into new life with colourful wings like a butterfly from its cocoon.
To fly.
———- Hope - Hoop ———-
‘Hoop’ - 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘏𝘰𝘱𝘦 An abstract man framed in a dark modern wooden frame.
This painting was painted during the first lockdown, when one morning I walked into my studio feeling nervous about the corona virus.
After listening to the news and feeling anxious about the world, I saw his face on a background I had already prepared for another painting.
It was just his face looking up into the sky as though hoping and praying for better days.
The blue resonates with the strong healing colour and I felt comforted when painting this portrait.
———- Destitute ———-
I painted this piece in oils and acrylics on paper.
It's a study of an old fisherman who had worked so hard in life but had fallen on hard times and lost everything.
I saw this photograph and my heart broke for him. His eyes were so empty like a lost soul everything gone helpless it just grabbed me and I felt strong emotion as I painted him.
I hope and pray wherever he is in the world his life had become a little better and he has found kindness and a smile again.
